We are currently recruiting volunteers to help with advising clients and to join our trustee board.
All sorts of people volunteer with us for many different reasons, but one thing that our volunteers tell us is that volunteering is enjoyable, rewarding, challenging and varied.
We welcome volunteers who reflect everyone in our community -
We champion equality for our clients, and we welcome volunteers who will reflect the diversity in our community, and would love every ethnic background, religion, sexuality and gender to be represented in our volunteers.
We have roles or can adapt roles for people with a wide range of physical ability, and we can support volunteers with mental health issues.
If you have been out of employment for a while and are lacking in confidence, we can support our volunteers with that.
Parents & carers, part time workers -
As a volunteer in an advice role at Citizens Advice, you don’t need any special qualifications or experience. You’ll need to be friendly and approachable and have a respect for views, values and cultures that are different to your own.
A reasonable level of confidence with IT and writing skills is needed to undertake advice roles, but more importantly, you need to be a good listener.
After a full induction, you will have a range of well recognised training opportunities and supervision to help you achieve agreed goals.
Once trained, you could be helping our clients online, over the phone and face to face, to explore the issues that they need help with and find the information they need to solve their problems.
Trustees are volunteers who are expected to use their skills, knowledge and experience to help guide and govern Citizens Advice Gosport. They work with the Chief Officer to shape strategy and give direction.
This includes making sure that Citizens Advice Gosport is:
Doing what it was set-
Complying with the law, including upkeep of premises, insurance, recruitment and equipment.
Securing money to meet current and new demands, and that all funds are used responsibly.
Recognised and valued by local organisations, funders and people, who are aware of the vital service the charity provides.
Attendance at regular quarterly meetings is expected by all trustees. Sometimes trustees will get involved in additional governance projects, such as supporting fundraising, developing strategy or overseeing HR procedures.
Within a board, some trustees will have a specific role, such as being the Chair, Treasurer or Secretary.
